This coming Saturday, October 1st, Oakland Rising along with Black Lives Matter Bay Area, BYP100 and Allen Temple AIDS Ministry will host a BLM Election Town Hall and Candidate Forum in deep east Oakland, District 7. With the highest density of Black and Brown residents and voters in the Town, we strategically partnered to hear from candidates and learn about key issues on the ballot. The content of this Town Hall and Candidate Forum will be aligned with the Vision for Black Lives Matter, which Oakland Rising supports.

The event has caught like fire, with 195 people confirmed to attend and another 854 people listed as “interested” in the Facebook event. With this being Oakland Rising’s first election town hall and candidate forum, we are excited to see how it goes and continue this practice, given all of the momentum created by it.
