Job Description
 
Oakland Rising (OR) is a multilingual, multiracial alliance of social justice organizations that educates and mobilizes voters in the flatlands to speak up for and take charge of the issues impacting our lives. Cause Justa :: Just Cause (CJJC) is a multi-racial, grassroots organization building community leadership to achieve justice for low-income Oakland and San Francisco residents.
 
OR and CJJC are currently seeking individuals who want to work in either of our paid canvass programs. Canvassers will be responsible for contacting thousands of Oakland residents by phone and/or door-to-door contact.
 
Canvassers will work 5-6 days a week on the following schedule (subject to change):

Mon, August 9th – Thursday, Sept 2nd with the Causa Justa :: Just Cause Team
        Hours:  Mon – Thurs 3 – 8:30pm
                  Sat  9:30am – 4:30pm
                  Sun 1:30 – 8:30pm
or:
                   Tues, Aug 17th  – Thursday, Sept 2nd with the Oakland Rising Team
                   Hours:  Mon – Thurs 3:30 – 9pm
                   Sat  9:30am – 4:30pm
                   Sun 1:30 – 8:30pm
 
Lunch or Dinner will be provided each workday.  Pay is $13 per hour
 

Requirements:
1.  Dedication to social and economic justice and the improvement of the lives of community residents
2.  Ability to educate and persuade people about ranked choice voting (an exciting new voting system in Oakland – training will be provided)
3.    Ability to work 6-8 hours per day, five to six days a week, either phone-banking or going door-to-door
4.    Physical ability to do lots of walking (with the Causa Justa :: Just Cause team)
5.    Positive Attitude
6.  Basic computer skills required
7.  Must be on time and reliable!
8. Ability to fill out accurate daily reports
9. Ability to work well in a team setting
10. Goal Oriented
11. Previous Campaign Experience a plus
12. Car a definite plus (with the Causa Justa :; Just Cause team)
13. Not required, but English-Spanish Bilingual a plus.  Basic command of English required.

INTERVIEWS:
Interviews will be held on Wednesday, August 4 from 5-8pm and Friday, August 6 from 12-3pm at 3463 San Pablo Ave in the Causa Justa :: Just Cause offices (cross street is 35th St).  In order to qualify for an interview, applicants must do 3 simple things:
1)    Bring a physical copy of their completed application form
2)    Be on time
3)    Bring a valid ID
No exceptions
 
Applicants only need to come to one interview (either Wed or Fri), and no preference will be given between the two interview events. No decisions will be made until all interviews are complete.  Due to the large number of applicants, please do not call to let us know you are coming to the interview – just show up.
