Somdeng Danny Thongsy is an Alameda County and Oakland resident and a formerly incarcerated community leader. He is currently the Coordinator/Campaigner for the Justice Reinvestment Coalition-Alameda County, a coalition of 19 community led organizations who challenge systems that perpetuate mass incarceration by advancing progressive policies and reinvesting resources into the community.
J served 25 years as a juvenile lifer. After coming home, he graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. in Sociology and minor in Criminal Justice Studies. J currently leads CURYJ’s statewide advocacy work and supports families in bringing their incarcerated loved ones home through participatory defense.
