Mobilizing Grassroots Support for Immigrant Rights
Immigrants are an integral part of our community’s fabric. Our rapid response team of more than 20 volunteers have helped us mobilize voters to put grassroots pressure on key legislators in support of the California Values Act.
I Am Black History
I am Black history. I’ve been thinking about that a lot recently as the last days of Black History month drifted away. But Black history isn’t just one month out of the year, it’s every day.
Participatory Budgeting: Democracy in Action

Opposition to oppression takes courage, and I draw my strength from Black women like Fannie Lou Hamer who stood up and fought back even when it was dangerous and unpopular.
A New Network of Resistance in Town
As a founding member of Bay Rising, Oakland Rising is joining forces with labor unions and social justice organizations to stand up to the attacks and rollbacks of the Trump regime. Our movement is called Bay Resistance, and together we’re staging weekly actions every Tuesday for the first 100 days of this administration.
Justice Reinvestment Moving Forward
The latest on our work to decrease the county’s spending on incarceration and increase its investments in opportunities our community.
Lead East Bay
Oakland Rising and our sister organization Oakland Rising Action are launching Lead East Bay this spring, a program that will identify, recruit and train cohorts of working class people of color to serve in public leadership roles in our city and our region.
Inaugurate Resistance: Join Us January 20th
This Friday we will mark the beginning of a period of resistance in the name of love, liberation and unity. Please join us in San Francisco to show the country and the world that we will not be silenced nor will we tolerate abuse from any level of our government or institutions.
Social Justice Issues Briefing for Oakland Elected Officials
On December 15th, 2016, Oakland Rising hosted our first ever Issues and Policy Briefing for all elected officials in the county whose districts touch Oakland. We had participation from most of the elected offices in Alameda County
