In a quick four-minute window in between several other hot-button issues, Map 26 was chosen in the first public hearing for Oakland’s redistricting at last night’s City Council meeting.
Map 26, which was submitted by Councilmember Lynette Gibson-McElhaney in late October, keeps Adam’s Point in one district – District 3 – while the Maxwell Park neighborhood will stay undivided in District 6. The Glen Echo/Richmond Boulevard area will also be in one district. Cleveland Heights will be moved to District 2, east of Lake Merritt.
The motion passed unanimously.
The next and final public hearing will be at the Dec. 10 council meeting.
