For Immediate Release | November 10, 2022

After three years of intensive community outreach and public participation we are excited to see Measure T pass, creating a progressive business tax in Oakland. We would like to thank Councilmembers Thao, Kalb and Fife for co-authoring the legislation and Councilmembers Kaplan, Taylor, Gallo and Reid for their support to place the measure on the ballot.

Oakland’s city services have been dangerously short staffed due to decades of disinvestment. As a result, the city has not been able to provide critical services that residents and businesses rely on. With the passage of Measure T, we’ve taken a significant step towards addressing this lack of investment and creating equity for small businesses. We intend to fulfill our commitment to voters by ensuring that Measure T funds are used to fill vacancies across city departments, keep our city clean and healthy, support small businesses, and improve fire protection.

We look forward to working with the incoming Mayor to Invest in Our Oakland.
