Monday Meals: Black History Month
“If there was ever a weekend to demonstrate the Town and the Bay’s contribution — this was the weekend. We can have fun, we can do HBCU, we can do the NBA All Stars, and we can protest. All in one weekend.” -Pecolia Manigo

“We would like to see our youth not charged as adults. We would like to see access to rehabilitation. A second chance at a first class life as our former DA would say.” -Alyssa Victory, ACLU

This Monday Meals, Chaney Turner, Voter Engagement Director of Oakland Rising, was joined by members of our very own program team who shared about who we are, what we do, why we do it, and what we accomplished last election season.

07.08 Monday Meals: Building Core Leaders
“How are we actually building consistent power? How are we building consistent leaders and changemakers in our community? The Anti Police-Terror Project is a Black-led, multi-racial, intergenerational coalition that seeks to build a replicable and sustainable model to eradicate police terror in communities of color. We support families surviving police terror in their fight for justice, documenting police abuses and connecting impacted families and community members with resources, legal referrals, and opportunities for healing. APTP began as a project of the ONYX Organizing Committee.
OPP + Townie Awards 2024: Townie of the Year
Urban Peace Movement (UPM) builds youth leadership in Oakland to transform the culture and social conditions that lead to community violence & mass incarceration in communities of color. UPM’s model of “Healing-Centered Youth Organizing” supports young people to feel self-confident & hopeful while empowering them to work for healing, social justice, and a brighter future for all!!
OPP + Townie Awards 2024: Community Liberator Townie
The Palestinian Youth Movement (“PYM”) is a transnational, independent, grassroots movement of young Palestinians in Palestine and in exile worldwide as a result of the ongoing Zionist colonization and occupation of our homeland. Our belonging to Palestine and our aspirations for justice and liberation motivate us to assume an active role as a young generation in our national struggle for the liberation of our homeland and people. Irrespective of our different political, cultural and social backgrounds, we strive to revive a tradition of pluralistic commitment toward our cause to ensure a better future, characterized by freedom and justice on a social and political level, for ourselves and subsequent generations.
OPP + Townie Awards 2024: Local Business Townie
Kinfolx is not your typical coffee shop or wine bar. Kinfolx is a modern-day public square and safe space that serves our community through a range of programming, events and, of course, constant vibes. We hope to be a home away from home and a refuge for those from all backgrounds to connect and come together. Whether you’re co-working during the day, attending our signature community-led lectures (Teach-ins), or dancing to the rhythm of some great, local DJs, Kinfolx is here for the community and for the culture.
