Now Hiring for the Fall – Spread the Word!
We are building a team of social justice advocates to educate and mobilize residents around the 2020 Census. An accurate Census count means: access to affordable housing, lunches for kids, funding for health centers, and fair political representation. Complete the online application by FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4.
Upcoming Town Hall to Demand Community Benefits!
Do you believe that public land should serve the public good? The City and Port of Oakland are considering a new mega baseball stadium complex on public land at Jack London Square.
Gearing Up for Fall with Training for Core Leaders
Our Schools & Communities First training was a huge success. Thanks to the 60 leaders and organizers who came through on a Saturday in late August. We’re ready to collect those petition signatures this Fall!
Strengthening Our Collaborative Through Innovative Projects
Check out our video about how our new projects combine technology and organizing to increase our collaborative’s impact, efficiency and capacity.
Steps Closer Towards Increased School Funding
We’re one step closer towards securing the resources we all need for thriving schools and community services like healthcare, affordable housing, and libraries. Signature gathering to qualify the initiative begins this fall. Sign up to support this effort!
Using Tech to Build Community Power
With the ongoing attacks to our immigrant and Black and Brown communities, it’s now more important than ever that our movement increases our technical capacity. We need to fight back at the ballot during the upcoming Presidential-election year, ensure safe and full participation in the upcoming census, and lift up community-led solutions.
Drawing the Line in Favor of Fair Representation
We soon have the opportunity to increase community voice in Oakland, Sacramento and D.C. – but, if we let the chance pass us by, we could see a loss of representation for those most marginalized. The way district lines are drawn affects how politicians represent constituents’ interests. When communities are held together, we have a greater ability to hold politicians accountable.
Some Warriors Stay in Oakland to Help Us Thrive
It hurts to lose our beloved basketball team, but we know that with dedication and passion, anyone among us has the potential to help our communities rise. Join us as we celebrate and honor a true Social Justice Warrior among us – Alma Blackwell.
Reem’s: Nourishing the People’s Movement
Enjoy Reem’s award-winning food on June 20 as they receive the Local Business Townie Award! Reem’s fuels the People’s movement with more than just their award-winning Arab street food. Their business model leads with economic justice principles, helping to create a thriving community.
Call to Fund a People’s Budget!
The City of Oakland’s budget needs to address our biggest issues including housing and homelessness, crumbling streets and too many low-wage jobs. Call your Councilmember today to stop the Mayor’s budget which would spend the majority of our money (the general purpose fund) on police and police overtime.
